Trade Law and Policy

Bennett Gastle has extensive experience in the field of trade law and policy. We have direct experience drafting legislation and the regulatory framework for the Kingdom of Cambodia with respect to certain international intellectual property law issues. We have also designed and conducted training programs for a variety of ministries and the Royal University for Law and Economics in Phnom Penh.  We are providing consulting to the government of Thailand with respect to international competition policy and have been invited to provide a course at the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi. Our next technical mission to Southeast Asia is scheduled for late fall, 2009 with training courses provided in the three countries.

In the past we have provided consulting services and studies on a variety of subjects from free trade agreements (Canada-Costa Rica FTA, FTAA), World Trade Organization disputes, Canada’s innovation strategy, and aboriginal rights as they arise in the context of international trade, among a number of other trade policy projects. We have also appeared before Senate, House of Commons, and Ontario Legislature Committees regarding international trade law issues.

Our practice includes investor-state arbitration, we represented nine first nations before one of the Binational Panels in the Softwood Lumber dispute, and have filed amicus curaie briefs before the World Trade Organization.
