Chuck was interviewed on BNN television regarding the NAFTA meeting in Quebec of Harper, Bush and Calderon. The focus was the Security and Prosperity Partnership which is designed to reduce regulatory impediments to trade and to build capacity within Mexico. It is essential for Canada’s future that this initiative continue at a time of growing protectionism within the United States.

We are pleased to welcome Brad Pleavin as a new lawyer to the firm. Brad was called to the bar in 2006 and will practice in the areas of insurance defence, commercial and civil litigation, as well as assisting with the firm's international law practice. Brad comes to Bennett Gastle from a large national firm in Toronto where he gained broad exposure to a range of litigation matters. |

Chuck traveled to
Cambodia for the third time, to present draft law on Undisclosed Information and Public Health implementing Article 39 of the World Trade Organization TRIPS Agreement. On June 9th-11th, Chuck traveled to Vientiene and Luang Prabang in
Laos and discussed WTO Accession from the TRIPS perspective. |

Chuck will teach “Globalization and Global Systems” as part of the Osgoode Hall Law School LL.M. program. This is the fourth time in the past five years that the course has been offered. |

Elizabeth Bennett-Martin with the assistance of Danielle Young is successful in obtaining an order for costs against a solicitor personally where a third party claim was dismissed against the insurer’s employees as an abuse of court. (Read Decision)

A workshop conducted in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to review legislative guides prepared for the implementation of TRIPS Article 39 dealing with the protection of undisclosed information in the approval process for pharmaceutical drugs and also for trade secrets. The Workshop was presented to members of the Departments of Commerce, Health and Justice as well as members of the Bar of Cambodia. |
